Yay! Here she is guys, in all her beat-up glory. Isn't she beautiful? *admires*

Obviously the cockpit is at the top. Ian sits behind the curved consoles on a raised dais, Ray V's seat is the one right at the front. There's a ladder that runs the length of the ship, connecting the levels. Below the cockpit you can see the recreation room. That's where the crew hang out, out of sight there's a kitchen area and a gym area with rowing machines/treadmills set on the sloping part. There's also the hatch through to the engine room which is at the back, Frannie has to run up and down ladders to get to everything.

The next layer down is the cabins. One each for the crew, one bathroom facility type thing, one holding cell, one for storage and one that acts as a docking hatch. Underneath the cabin layer is where the landing struts are kept. There's an airtight hatch between those two layers because that section is not pressurised. At the back of that section is a bay where various things are kept (strapped down of course) including the triker vehicle. The only way for a member of the crew to get something from there while in flight is to go in in a pressure suit.

And that's the ship, home to the Rays, Frannie and Ian. Lived in, not always loved, often creaky but willing - that's Riviera.

That is possibly the coolest thing I have seen in my life. Ever.

I told the Beloved and he preened and was proud.

Okay, I'm seriously in love with this design. There are SO MANY fun little nods to other famous sci-fi ships (the Slave 1 from "Star Wars", Serenity , etc) and the ship itself looks pretty much like I'd imagined, all scruffy and beat up and still kind of beautiful, just like the "real" Riv. The layout seems very sensible (I like the notion of keeping the holding cell near the cabins because, duh, it's a small ship and it wouldn't make sense to put the brig waaaaay far away from the other quarters.) And ooh! There will be a scene with the pressure suit! That's great!

My only constructive suggestion is to make the ship a bit more green. Just because I am a purist :-)

Yay! The Beloved wants me to point out that I kept making him add bits which meant that it ended up more Slave 1-y than he'd wanted. But he's really glad you got the references.

At this rate eventually there's going to be a scene with everything because the fic seems determined to grow.

Why more green?

I think it should be green because the Riv is green, but it might be hard to paint a spaceship. ;-)

D'oh! I am a bad fangirl. Apparently the Contingency does not take to painted spaceships - would take too much money on upkeep. I suggest you file a complaint with them. :)

This is so fucking cool. I don't normally "do" AUs but this -- this is going to be fun, I can tell.

*twirls you* I don't usually go for AUs either (except insomuch as everything we write is AU) but this is such a blast. Especially as the Beloved is totally into it and will have long conversations with me about the 'verse and the crew and how to do stuff with limited handwavium. I'm hooked.

Just a couple of bits - though more by luck than good management, I cannot tell a lie. (Well, yes, I can. But I'm choosing not to. :) )

*squeaks* Oh that is just SWEET! I mean, I obviously have no problems with simply visualizing things rather than having pictorial evidence, but this is just so COOL! I just ... I've seen/read lots of sci-fi, and I think that you might have just created a new kind of ship! And it is called the Riviera!! *loves on you and your Beloved*

She is so lovely! I had to have the Beloved draw her because I didn't want to get confused by who went where through which hatch etc - I needed consistency - and then she took on a life of her own. I love her so. Damn. Much.
